Tide clocks are specially geared to keep pace with the tides. As most of you know we have two high tides per day and two low tides per day with about a 15 minute slack tide or the interval of change inbetween the tides. This equates to an approximate 25 hour tidal cycle each "day". Of course our "day" is 24 hours, so the time/tide clocks have two gears, one for the 24 hour time/day and one for the 25 hour tide cycle. Not to worry, just put the AA battery in your clock, set it on high tide and let it go! Readjustment at the full moon is suggested. Most of our clocks are made in the United States with components from Germany or Canada. Tide clocks are helpful for boaters, fishermen, surfers, beachgoers and beachcombers. With your new tide clock you will even know where to put your towel down on the beach, up high on an incoming tide and closer to the water on an outgoing tide.
It’s easier to decide which to do if you know whether the tide is in or out. The action of the tide is very complex and involves many factors. Calculations necessary for compiling official tide tables are usually done by computer. This tide clock does not claim to give the exact time of each tide at a given place, but will give the average time - which is all the average person needs to tell them when they can go boating, fishing or enjoy other tidal experiences. The primary motivator of the tides is the moon. The average duration between two transits of the moon around the earth is 24 hours, 50 minutes, and 30 seconds - This is referred to as the “lunar” or “tidal” day. Your Tide Clock has four hands - The tide indicating hand, running 50 minutes late every 24 hours, and thus indicating the average times of tides at given points. Then there are the usual hour, minute, and second hands. 1. Insert a AA size battery into the movement of the clock, which can be reached through the back of the brass casing. 2. Always set the regular hour/minute time, before the tidal time. Set the regular hour/minute hands by using the knob at the back of the movement. 3. Set the tide hand by using the wheel at the back of the movement. The exact time of the next high tide can be obtained from official tide tables in your location, from the harbour master, from your weather channel, or from the offices of most shipping companies. As a general rule, the best time for setting the tide hand is at high tide during a new or full moon. If set in this way, your tide hand should not need to be adjusted again.

WEEMS & PLATH TIDE CLOCKS - Made in AMERICA -- Maryland To see the Endurance matching sets click hereThe Endurance Collection features five remarkable benefits never before available in a brass instrument collection. Imagine purchasing a brass instrument for your boat (Home or Office) that will never need to be touched again except to change the battery! For the first time ever, a solution has been found to the complaint every boater makes when the harsh marine environment eats away at costly instruments; corrosion and tarnish. Weems & Plath has diligently worked to resolve these problems using new technology to offer permanent solutions, while providing several other significant advancements as well:
The instruments may not look revolutionary at first, but when left out in the elements it becomes apparent why the collection is called Endurance. No matter what the conditions, they will always look like new. The brass case of each instrument is coated with an ultra-hard mirror finish that stands up to tough outdoor conditions. They never need polishing or refinishing. Weems & Plath is so sure about the long lasting durability of this finish, that they offer a lifetime warranty on not just the movement inside but also on the finish of the instrument. In addition to the durable finish, another feature that makes the Endurance Collection the best choice for use in the marine environment is the fact that it is weatherproof. The beveled glass crystal creates an elegant look of quality and style, while a silicone o-ring seated behind the crystal protects the front of the instrument from water and contaminants. The next exciting feature that is also offered for the first time is a unique mounting system developed by Weems & Plath called the Weems Slide ‘n Lock Mounting System. This simple to use system locks instruments in place, yet allows easy removal for adjustments, battery changes, storage or security. The instrument can be lifted off its mounting plate without having to remove the screws that secure it to the wall or bulkhead of the boat. A unique dovetail design on the backside of the instrument slides over the mounting plate and locks into place so that no mounting screws are in view. The Weems & Plath Endurance Collection is the solution to every boater’s desire for a beautifully styled, easy to use, and maintenance free instrument. Endurance is the perfect solution for the boat, home, or office. [Return to top] |
